Mr. Emad AlJaaly is a distinguished consultant cardiac and minimally invasive surgeon based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, in the Hammersmith Hospital. With an impressive career spanning over two decades in the United Kingdom and more than a decade internationally, he stands out as a refined surgeon, a confident operator, and a pioneer in the field of cardiac surgery.

Mr. AlJaaly has a remarkable journey commencing with his graduation as the best-performing student in medical university, setting the stage for his pursuit of excellence. He honed his skills during years of basic surgical training across different countries. In 2010, he was promoted to the role of registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Hammersmith Hospital. His accomplishments reached new heights in 2014, when he secured the only prestigious Cardiothoracic Surgery Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) post, part of the National Training Number (NTN) in the United Kingdom, demonstrating his exceptional talent.

Over and above his clinical commitments, Mr. AlJaaly’s unwavering commitment to research excelled through impactful research in the field of cardiac surgery. His endeavours culminated in a well-deserved Ph.D. award from Imperial College London in 2019. His dedication to professional development was evident as he completed his national training program, obtained the FRCS (C-Th), and was granted the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2020. He worked for a year post CCT, in Advanced Aortic Fellowship, gaining an enormous skill set in major aortic work. He was then appointed to a locum consultant position at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in October 2021, before his final substantive appointment at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in October 2022.

Mr. AlJaaly has refined his experience in the art of fine coronary surgery with a preference for off-pump (beating heart) coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB), arterial grafting, and minimally invasive procedures. He has conducted a significant number of minimally invasive valve surgeries and contributes to the North-West London aortic dissection rota, for emergency type A aortic dissection repair.

Vision and Mission

Our objective is to establish a chain of African Cardiac Centres in African countries.  Sudan is at the top of our priority list. This is due to the strategic geographic location within Africa, good connectivity with other countries, and a diverse massive population with significant demand locally for heart services. As a matter of fact, Sudan needs about 20 times the cardiac services provided before the recent war, for its population (ElSayed and Elnur, et al, 2016). The first base cardiac centre with medical and nursing school at Omdurman/Khartoum shall offer patient-focused care in Sudan, with a view to expanding across other African countries in the future. This facility will offer an initial setup with capacity and various theatres and procedure spaces and will be subject to further expansion in the future. Knowing the demand of the massive African market, it is our ambition to become the leading Cardiac centre in the region, offering the highest standards of care and leading the way in the future, as a chain of Cardiac centres across several African countries.
